Ms. Daigle and her students at DDB are deeply grateful for the incredibly generous gift given to her classes. The donation, which was both thoughtful and substantial, came from several of Ms. Daigle’s friends.

The story behind the gift began one afternoon when Ms. Daigle was walking her dog through her neighborhood before the school year began. During her walk, she bumped into Debra Seglund, and the two struck up a conversation about preparing for the upcoming school year. This conversation sparked an idea, and Ms. Seglund reached out to friends in the neighborhood to see if they’d be interested in contributing to Ms. Daigle’s class. What started as a simple inquiry quickly turned into something much more meaningful. A group of kind-hearted seniors sprang into action, and within no time, they had gathered a generous donation from 20 people.

On Friday, September 19, 2025, three of the 20 donors– many who live in the Pine Shadows neighborhood in Cottonwood, visited Ms. Daigle’s class to present the gift. In a heartwarming moment, the children had made personalized cards, which they joyfully gave to their new “adopted grandmothers.” The generous donors include: Debra Seglund, Diana Naismith, Reva Pallone, Mary Edgerton, Sharon Sottile, Debbie and John Seely, June Anderson, Ginny Snyder, Betty Whipple, Jenny Rea, Sandy Rea, Neila MacDonald, Jeanie Gold, LInda Brockway, and a few anonymous donors! We are truly grateful.
It was a truly special occasion for everyone involved, and a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a community that so deeply values the education of its children.

🚨 Community Update 🚨

This morning, Cottonwood Police Department promptly notified the district about a car vs. pedestrian accident on Mingus Avenue. The child involved was not a COCSD student, and we’re relieved to share that they sustained only minor injuries. We are so grateful for a positive outcome, and our thoughts are with the child, their family, and everyone affected.

We also want to acknowledge that our communication systems worked effectively, allowing for timely updates and coordination with administration. We are truly grateful for the care, concern, and compassion expressed by our staff, families, and community for the child involved.

🙏 A friendly reminder to everyone — we all have a responsibility to keep our community's children safe. Please stay alert when driving near school zones, crosswalks, and school buses that are stopped with flashing lights and extended stop signs. Your attentiveness helps keep our students and community children safe every day.

🚍 Early Morning at COCSD Transportation! ☀️

Our bus fleet was up bright and early this weekend for the annual DPS Safety Inspection — and we’re proud to report great results! Out of 16 buses inspected, only 3 didn’t pass the initial test, and 2 were fixed on the spot and immediately stickered ✅. That means just one back-up bus is waiting for its final sign-off.

That’s a huge improvement from last year — and it’s all thanks to the hard work and dedication of our incredible mechanics, Jimmy and David, who keep our buses safe, reliable, and ready to roll every day. 👏👏

Safe buses = safe kids. 💛🚌 #COCSDProud #SchoolBusSafety #Teamwork

🖥️ October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! 🔒

At Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District, we’re committed to keeping our students safe—both in the classroom and online. As technology becomes a bigger part of learning, parents play an important role in helping children stay smart and secure on the internet.

Here are a few simple tips to help protect your family online:
💡 Talk early and often – Discuss what’s okay (and not okay) to share online.
🔑 Strong passwords matter – Use complex passwords and update them regularly.
👀 Keep an eye out – Know what apps, games, and websites your child uses.
📱 Think before you click – Teach kids to be cautious of suspicious links or messages.
🔒 Privacy is power – Encourage kids to keep personal details—like school, address, or phone number—private.

Together, we can build good digital habits that last a lifetime! 💙💻

Mr. Franklin’s after-school club at Cottonwood Community School is a big hit! The boys love their “guys only” space while learning skills like tool safety, how car motors work, and even how to use clamps and saws. 👷‍♂️🔧

This week they built PVC marshmallow launchers all on their own, and soon they’ll be learning how to tie a tie! 👔

We’re so proud of the confidence and skills they’re building together! 💪
